Corso Como and the Porta Nuova Skyline: Milan Between Style and the Future

Just a short walk from Taylor’s Love Solferino B&B, Corso Como and Porta Nuova reveal a modern side of Milan. Fashionable venues, public spaces and dramatic skyscrapers come together in a highly photogenic area. At approximately 0.8–1 kilometre from Via Solferino 56, it is an easy destination for a morning walk, an afternoon of shopping or an evening aperitivo beneath the modern skyline.

Corso Como: Fashion, Culture and Milanese Nightlife

Corso Como connects the area around Porta Garibaldi with the contemporary heart of Porta Nuova. Today it is largely pedestrianised and known for cafés, restaurants, fashion shops and evening venues. Its transformation over recent decades has made it one of Milan’s best-known nightlife destinations, while it still retains the intimate scale of a traditional city street.

The most famous address is 10 Corso Como, the pioneering fashion and cultural destination founded by Carla Sozzani in 1991. Its combination of fashion, design, photography, books, exhibitions and hospitality helped introduce a new way of experiencing retail. Visitors may also enjoy its distinctive courtyard and curated spaces.

During the day, Corso Como is ideal for a relaxed stroll and a coffee. In the early evening, the atmosphere becomes livelier as residents and visitors gather for aperitivo and dinner. The contrast between the lower buildings and the glass towers ahead makes the walk especially memorable.

Porta Nuova and Its Skyscrapers

At the northern end of Corso Como, the city opens into Porta Nuova, one of Milan’s most important urban regeneration districts. The area combines offices, residences, shops, pedestrian spaces and greenery, creating a modern neighbourhood connected to the historic centre.

Piazza Gae Aulenti is the district’s central meeting point. Opened in 2012 and named after the celebrated Italian architect and designer, the elevated circular square is surrounded by contemporary buildings, cafés and shops. Its fountains and reflections are particularly attractive after sunset, when the towers are illuminated.

Above the square rises the UniCredit Tower, instantly recognisable by its elegant spire. It has become one of the defining landmarks of Milan’s contemporary skyline and contrasts beautifully with the city’s historic architecture.

A few minutes away stands the Bosco Verticale, or Vertical Forest, designed by Boeri Studio. The two residential towers are covered with hundreds of trees and thousands of shrubs and plants, making the buildings change with the seasons. They are private residences, but their planted balconies can be admired from the surrounding public spaces and the nearby Biblioteca degli Alberi park.

Walking from Via Solferino 56

From Taylor’s Love Solferino B&B, Corso Como can be reached comfortably on foot in around 10–15 minutes. Once at Piazza XXV Aprile, the pedestrian stretch of Corso Como leads naturally toward Piazza Gae Aulenti and the Porta Nuova skyline. The walk offers a gradual transition from classic Milan to its newest architectural district.

Practical Tips

Visit in the morning for quieter streets and clearer architectural views, or arrive in the late afternoon to enjoy the changing light and stay for aperitivo. Comfortable shoes are recommended, as the pleasure of the area lies in walking between Corso Como, Piazza Gae Aulenti, Bosco Verticale and the surrounding green spaces. Opening hours for shops, exhibitions and individual venues may vary.
